Where possible I will try use consistent terms when describing the world

People

When meeting a samurai or other character you will usually be able to gauge his quality , perhaps the way he holds himself, the quality of equipment, or just an aura.

  • POOR............ 20%
  • WEAK............ 30%
  • AVERAGE......... 40%
  • STRONG.......... 60%
  • VERY STRONG..... 80%
  • MIGHTY.......... 95%

Items

Quality in anything is highly appreciated, a musical performance, a well written letter, a unique piece of pottery. Quality reflects well on the creator , the owner or the user.

  • POOR........... 1/2 cost, do your really want to be seen with this
  • GOOD........... 2x cost, recognizably better than the average
  • FINE........... 5x cost, superior qualities, e.g. bow strings that don't break
  • EXCEPTIONAL.... 10x cost, often have minor 'magical' properties e.g. sword that always does at least 2 points of damage
  • MASTER WORK.... Priceless, likely to have special powers, may even attract attention from the spirit world.

Activity

Adventurers frequently need to perform tasks for which there is no specific skill and so require a roll against the most appropiate attribute. An everyday activity can suddenly be a challenge when you attempt it in armour at night with a monster breathing down your back.

  • EASY.......... 7x Attribute, normally no need to roll
  • ROUTINE....... 5x Attribute, only tested if failure would cause problem
  • AWKWARD....... 3x Attribute, is there a way to make it easier
  • HARD.......... 2x Attribute
  • VERY HARD..... 1x Attribute
  • EXTREME....... 1/2 Attribute, Do you really want to risk it.
