Drinax was once capital of the Kingdom of Drinax, probably the most successful of the various states that survived the Empire of Sindal?, mainly due to the distance from Sindal, and the strength and power of the Duke of Drinax at the time. Drinax back then was a rich, fertile and populous world, and the wealth of half a sector flowed into its vaults. Its Kings became a byword for extravagance, buying luxuries from halfway across Charted Space. The jewel in the crown was the famous floating Royal Palace, hovering above the surface on a vast grav platform.
All this wealth and power was ended in an instant, when the Aslan bombed the planet into virtual extinction from orbit.
The surface of the planet is now almost completely lifeless - a blasted wasteland. The only remnant of civilisation is the Royal Palace, which floats above the landscape on a huge grav platform. This was spared by the Aslan as an ironical gesture, but managed to survive and function, barely, to sustain the tiny population that remains.
