Who Are You?

I am your father, although you will refer to me as sir outside the family.

Father, Who Are We?

We are a respected family of the Kingdom Of Soltara. For many generations we have tilled the land and worked hard, and as a result we have a fine home with many rooms and much fertile land. Other families that were not so hard-working now work for us in our fields. We pay them a fair wage if they work hard, but do not pay them if they do not work - that is just and we are a just family. My father left this land to me alone, so we would remain a strong family. My brothers left to find new lands across the sea or on the borders, some of them joined the military orders. I shall leave the land to your brother, so you must make the same choices. That is just and is the Soltaran way.

Father, What Makes Us Great?

We are great because we are just and follow the laws that were given to us by Arpan, the sun god. We worship many other gods, but Arpan is the greatest of them. The king is high-priest of Arpan and thus he is guided in his actions by the clear light of the sun. We do not question the decisions of the king, nor of his nobles, in the same way that you do not question my decisions, for I am older and wiser than you, and Arpan guides me too. Other races squabble and fight amongst themselves; we are strong for we all follow the same clear light.

Father, Why Are Men And Women Different?

Men are the better of women, for we are guided by the clear light of Arpan, while women follow the ways of Soltara?, the earth goddess. As the sun stands above the earth, so men stand above women. Women tempt us from the path of righteousness, but they are also necessary, as it is necessary to stand upon the earth to see the sun. The sun returns to the earth every evening, and so we should return to the women. We are the children of the sun and the earth, Arpan and Soltara?, for Arpan took Soltara? as wife in the beginning. Thus it is proper that men should marry women and have children, but only in the way that is sanctioned by Arpan. Women must obey the orders of their husbands, for this is proper. Women belong in the home, rearing children and tending the hearth, and in the fields, tending the crops. When they are out of the home they should be demure and well covered and not consort with men who are not of their family. It is not proper for women to go to war, as the women of some nations do. Some women do not marry, either because no man will have them or there are too few men to marry in their village. Such women are dangerous and should be avoided.

Father, What Makes a Man Great?

Much land makes a man great, as does success in battle. These are different sorts of greatness. Merchants and traders think that money makes a man great, but it does not. You cannot eat gold, nor make weapons from it. It is beautiful, but not great. Do not be seduced by such thoughts. Our grandchildren do not remember a rich man, but they remember a great hero and they can farm a great estate.

Father, What Is Bad?

Evil gods that seek to overthrow the sun are bad, and their followers are our enemies. They are a corruption within our society and we must always be on our guard. The followers of Thanatar? steal knowledge from us. The beastmen lurk in the depths of forests. Vampires corrupt those that fear death.
