Walei is a hell-world, with oceans of complex hydrocarbons, constant corrosive acid rain and average equatorial night temperatures of 90 degrees centigrade. It is however rich in mineral resources.
The population originally intended to terraform it, but this proved impossible. The entire population now lives in underground habitats and tunnels.
The strong electromagnetic fields on Walei make mid and high tech electronics almost unusable. The locals produce an ingenious range of mechanical computers to overcome this, which are highly valued off-world as art objects and collector's pieces.
