CountyOfAnora

The County of Anora is a realm on the eastern seaboard of the Inner Sea?. It covers an area of approximately 5,000 square miles. The land lies between the Zihar Hills? and the sea. The northern boundary is the Anora River? and to the south it borders the Kingdom Of Terchen. To the north are the Hirani Tribes, and then beyond them the County Of Yrasse.

The capital of the county is the City Of Anora, which lies at the mouth of the Anora River?. The two other cities within the county are the City Of Khabor and the City Of Erim. The county is a realm of the Kingdom Of Soltara. It controls the end of the trade route that runs across the Stoney Desert? and is thus a key overseas territory of the Kingdom.

The County is open, rolling countryside, watered by streams and rivers that come off the Zihar Hills?. Rain is restricted to the winter months and the rest of the year the rivers provide the only water, lending the land a parched and dry aspect. Most of the population is Soltaran, who have forced the native Hirani population north over the river into Hirani Valley? and the Hirani Coast?. They live in scattered, well defended villages, normally with a castle and resident feudal lord. Settlers and their lords owe military service to the county but are otherwise free men, the local lord will often be the largest local landowner and also responsible for co-ordinating local defense. Threats to the county are from the Hirani across the river, the Terchenese to the south and desert raiders from the Zihar hills.

The County is ruled by the Count and by a Grand Council?. The military resources of the county are not enough for its defence, so there are commanderies of the Military Orders Of Soltara? based here as well, most notably of the Knights Of The Burning Sun, the Black Knights Of Truth and the Knights Of Tarbor. The arms of Anora are a blue field with a golden sun.
